Friends are so vital and important. We all need good friends, indeed a ‘best friend’. But how do we find them? Surely the best method is by being a good friend ourselves to others?
I made many good friends when I was a student, and I have stayed in contact with a few ever since. I am also very privileged to have found good friends in the form of work colleagues. Over the years many colleagues have been the best of friends to me. Many thanks to each and all.
Now for the bit you have been waiting for. It was whilst at University that I met someone who has become a special, lifelong friend to me – my wife. [Watching my students, as we lecturers do, we recognise the symptoms in many of you – I hope you will be as happy as I have been!]
That was close – but not quite close enough.
